Many Magento 2 merchants don't talk to software vendors directly. They ask their agency. So when a client says "can we add an AI assistant to the store?", the agency ends up owning the question, even if it doesn't want to own the product. This post explains how an agency can bring a catalog-aware assistant like Claspwell to a client store, what the agency actually has to do, and what stays with us.
What the agency does, and what it doesn't
The short version: the agency opens the door, Claspwell does the install. On the FAQ, the answer to "Can my Magento agency handle the install?" is that agencies often provide access and deployment windows, while we still run the guided install: module, keys, attributes, first sync and knowledge seed. That is on purpose. Tenant isolation and catalog mapping are easy to get subtly wrong, and a wrong mapping means wrong answers in front of shoppers.
In practice the agency usually handles:
- Introducing the client and joining the discovery call, which typically takes 30 to 45 minutes with the merchant and the agency together.
- Giving access to the right environment and agreeing a deployment window that fits the client's release process.
- Answering questions about the theme (Hyvä or Luma), extensions and custom attributes that we can't see from the outside.
Claspwell handles the Magento module, store key and origin setup, attribute mapping, the first catalog sync and seeding the curated knowledge content. The install is included in the plan, with no separate setup invoice.
Why it doesn't add work to the agency's Hyvä stack
Agencies on Hyvä are protective of performance, and they should be. The storefront widget is built with Alpine.js and loads as a deferred script, so there is no React island to drop into a Hyvä theme. We wrote more about that in Hyvä + Alpine: shipping a storefront chat widget that stays fast.
The widget only uses a public store key, with origin checks, captcha and a session token. No OpenAI keys or Magento secrets live in the browser, which is usually the first thing a careful agency developer asks about.
How long it takes
Once scope is agreed and access is ready, a typical install takes 3 days to 1 week. Most of that time is mapping the attributes that matter for discovery, not writing code. Stores with clean, consistent attributes go faster, and agencies are often the ones who know where the messy attributes are.
Clients with several stores
Agencies often look after merchants with more than one store or store view. Each store is a separate tenant with its own store_id, so catalog data and conversations never mix between stores. On the pricing page, Scale covers up to 3 store tenants, and the Agency plan (from €990 net per month) is for multi-store programs, with a dedicated support channel and a negotiated allowance.
Which plan to suggest to a client
- Essential (€99 net per month, 750 conversations) is the low-commitment start for one store. We still install it with you.
- Growth (€249 net per month, 3,000 conversations, hourly sync) is the usual default, and adds answer analytics and unknown questions.
- Scale (€499 net per month) fits clients with up to 3 stores or higher traffic, and includes an onboarding call.
Only sessions that reach the AI path count toward the allowance, so simple scripted or catalog-only chats don't eat into it. Billing is by invoice; there is no online checkout in v1.
What not to promise the client
A good agency protects its reputation by not overselling. Today Claspwell is a catalog-aware sales assistant for Magento 2. Cart and add-to-cart assist is on the roadmap as planned, not live, and order status questions are a later item. There is no WhatsApp or Instagram channel and no SOC 2 certificate. Setting those expectations early makes the go-live smoother for everyone.
How to start
If you're an agency with a Magento 2 client who keeps asking about AI search or chat, send us the store URL, Magento version, whether it runs Hyvä and a rough idea of the catalog through the integration request form. We review every request for Magento fit before booking a call, and you can see the full process on How it works.
