A catalog-aware AI sales assistant does not guess what your products are. It reads the categories, products and attributes you already keep in Magento 2, so the quality of those attributes decides how good its answers can be. This is a practical checklist for getting your attributes ready, whether you plan to install an assistant next month or just want cleaner data.
Why attributes matter more than prompts
Claspwell syncs categories, products and shopper-facing attributes from Magento instead of crawling your pages. Discovery is category-first: the assistant resolves the right category, then searches inside it, typically with no more than two catalog queries per turn. When the request is too broad, it asks a clarifying question about an attribute such as material, size or load class, the way a trained sales associate would.
That only works when the attribute exists, has a clear label and is filled in consistently. A shopper asking for "a stainless steel hook rated for 50 kg" can only get a precise answer if material and load rating live in real attributes, not in a sentence halfway down the description.
The attribute checklist
- Split shopper-facing from internal attributes. List the attributes customers actually filter and ask by. Supplier codes, warehouse flags and legacy import fields are useful to you, but they only add noise to answers.
- Use labels a shopper would say. "Material" beats "mat_code_2". Storefront labels are what shoppers and the assistant both work with.
- Standardise option values. "Stainless steel", "Stainless" and "SS" are three different values to any system. Merge duplicates into one option, and keep units consistent, for example always kg or always mm.
- Prefer select attributes over free text. Dropdowns and multi-selects give clean, comparable values. Free text fields drift over time.
- Fill the key attributes on every product. A filter that is empty on a third of a category quietly hides those products from precise questions. Start with the two or three attributes that matter most in your biggest categories.
- Move specs out of descriptions. If dimensions, compatibility or ratings exist only in description text, add them as attributes. Your layered navigation and feeds benefit too.
- Check configurable products. Make sure the options shoppers choose, such as size or colour, are real configurable attributes on the children, and that the parent has the shared details.
Categories are part of the same job
Because discovery starts from your category tree, a structure that matches how shoppers think helps more than any wording in a prompt. Watch for categories that mix unrelated products, deep branches with one or two items, and products assigned to a category that no shopper would look in.
How this fits a Claspwell install
Attribute mapping is part of the included install, together with the Magento module and the first catalog sync. Installation typically takes 3 days to 1 week once scope and access are ready, and the process page puts it plainly: better attributes mean better category-first answers. You do not need a perfect catalog to start. Bring someone who knows which attributes shoppers use and which are messy, and fix the biggest gaps first.
After go-live, catalog sync follows your plan: daily on Essential, hourly on Growth and every 15 minutes on Scale. Attribute fixes you make in Magento reach the assistant with the next sync, with no reinstall. The tenant-scoped admin APIs also let you track sync queues and resolve mapping conflicts without writing SQL.
